About Barrow Male Voice Choir


We are Barrow Male Voice Choir, a group of men who sing traditional, classical and modern songs in four parts.
We are based in Barrow-in-Furness and our members are from the town and the surrounding area.
We all enjoy singing together, we maintain a high standard of performance however our rehearsals can be a lot of fun.
We are a registered Charity Number 1186272.
We perform around a dozen concerts each year and often raise money for charities, have a look in upcoming events to see where our future concerts are.

Trustees Annual Report for March 2024 - March 2025

 

The choir is a charity with the following objective:

To further the cause of choral music for the male voice by its study and practice and by its public performance in order to foster public appreciation of such music and for the public benefit.

This report describes how the choir has met this objective in the period March 2024- March 2025(That is the period between our annual general meetings)

  • The choir took part in The South Cumbria Musical Festival in The Coronation Hall, Ulverston on Thursday 21st March and in a public performance retained the rose bowl trophy by winning the male voice choir competition.

  • The choir sang at a fundraiser for the parish roof at St Mary's Dalton on 12 April,£1010 was raised.

  • The choir entertained diners in The Forum with a short lunchtime concert on Saturday 18th May.

  • St Annes church Ings hosted a public event on 26 th May where the choir performed to an appreciative audience.

  • The choir performed at Civic Sunday on 23 rd June in Barrow Town Hall to celebrate the inauguration of the new Mayor of Barrow.

  • The choir's Annual concert took place on 16 th August at Abbey Road Baptist Church in Barrow. Ticket prices were kept low at £5.00 each in order to enable as many people as possible to attend and we were rewarded with an audience of over 90. This public concert was the launch event for our repertoire for the coming year.

  • Choir members travelled to Coniston on 22 nd August and performed a public concert in Coniston Methodist Chapel where a retiring collection raised over £400 for St Mary's Hospice.

  • A Taster Evening was held on 9 th September 2024 and 2 new singers attended.

  • The choir performed in a public concert at Urswick church on 21 st September.

  • The choir performed for residents and staff at Abbeyfield care home on 4 th October

  • A concert to raise funds for the Mayor of Barrow's chosen charities saw the choir perform in a public concert at Barrow Town Hall where £800 was raised for local charities Stitch Ability and Every Life Matters.

  • Greengate School, Barrow hosted a Christmas Concert where the choir sang traditional carols and the pupils sang popular Christmas songs, £375 was raised for charities 40 winks 4 Furness and St Mary's Hospice..

  • Dalton Church hosted an Advent service on 1st December and the choir sang Christmas themed pieces.

  • The choir sang in a Christmas concert at Aldingham church on 20 th December where £388 was raised for church and choir funds.

  • In the month before Christmas the choir sang carols in nine local care homes for the elderly.

  • On 2nd March 2025 the choir travelled to Manchester to take part in Manchester Annual Choral Competition and performed in front of a large audience at The Royal Northern College of Music.
